Gleeksource tries to give all Gleeks out there some news about Season 4 of Glee as we get it. It may be little but it lets us know where Season 4 is headed. We still have mixed feelings how it is all going to play out. Ryan Murphy co-creator of Glee gives some insights on casting.
"We're cutting back on the number of characters," he says of the hit Fox series that returns to the Emmys after two recent bids for Best Comedy Series. "After three seasons of a lot of those choir room scenes with 18 people, it became a bit much. The show has grown into a gargantuan.
"It's exciting how we're dealing with New York, where Rachel went off to in the end and how we're dealing with Ohio with the new kids coming up and which couples are breaking up and which ones are staying together."
Murphy acknowledges recent controversy over allegations that "Glee" has shown far fewer romantic gay scenes than heterosexual ones over the past TV season: "I really understand how important it is for so many young people to turn on a show and say, 'Oh, I'm like that character and I wish I had that bravery.' When I was growing up, I didn't have that. I get it. I appreciate it. I commend the passion … but there is no other show on network television that has done more for gay characters and stories than 'Glee' and I've fought hard for that
So if Ryan Murphy is saying that he is cutting back on characters but everyone that was on Glee can come back how is that cutting down on characters? Plus it takes 12 people to make a choir for regionals. So you have Rory( Damian McGinty), Joe(Sam Larsen),Sam(Chord Overstreet), Brittany(Heather Morris) ,Tina(Jenna Ushkowitz), Artie(Kevin McHale), and Sugar (Vanessa Lengies). So they will need five more characters for New Directions.. Also they will need characters to surround Rachel ( Lea Michele's) story arc at NYADA. So how is that cutting back characters? We know that one will be chosen from TGPS2. It better be a girl because it looks like that there is a shortage of girls at McKinley unless they use Lindsay Pearce as a transfer student . Alex Newell's character "Wade/Unique" made a statement that he might be coming to McKinley next year right before he went on stage for "Nationals".
