In a recent interview with the cast of Glee on "Inside the Actors Studio" Ryan Murphy  and the cast talked about the Michael Jackson Tribute and  how Chris orginally tried out for Artie but Ryan developed a character just for him to play.  We have heard this bit of information before but there was one then that was said that was noteworthy by Ryan Murphy.
